4. Using a 12 mm socket, remove the two bolts
fastening the stock (rubber) rear lateral stabilizer to the change
extension. |

5. Next, remove the 12 mm bolt holding the change
extension to the transmission. Carefully remove the dust seal. |

6. This will allow you to remove the change extension and shift lever as
a unit. |

7. Place the change extension and shift lever on
a clean, flat surface. Remove the change ball lock-nuts using a 10 mm
socket. |

8. Since we were also installing the B&M
shift stabilizer system, we removed the rubber bushing from the front of
the change extension. |

9. Remove the shift lever from the change
extension. |

10. To install the shift stabilizer, trim the
flare off the end of the change extension with a hacksaw or rotary
cutter and remove the stock rubber lateral stabilizer. |

11. Lightly lubricate the rear of the change
extension and slide the replacement polyurethane lateral stabilizer onto
the end of shaft. |

12. Clean the inner shift socket area of the
change extension and lightly lubricate. When installing a stabilizer,
place the aluminum eccentrics in the front of the change extension where
the rubber bushings were previously. Insert an allen head bolt through
one of the eccentrics and thread it through the other side. Don't
tighten yet. . |

13. Insert the short-throw shift lever into the
change extension socket. Re-install the two change ball bolts and lock
nuts. Be sure the bolt is fully seated. Torque to 7 ft-lbs. |

14. Choose desired shift lever position according
to the diagram and set eccentrics. Torque to 10 ft-lbs. You can also
wait until mechanism is re-installed in vehicle to complete this step. |

15. Re-install change extension and shift lever
in vehicle. Be careful not to tear the dust seal when re-installing
shifter. |

16. Re-install front of change extension to
transmission. Torque to 16 ft-lbs. |

17. Line up position of rear lateral stabilizer
on end of change extension to its corresponding bolt holes on the
underside of car. Torque to 16 ft-lbs. |

18. Line up change rod with bottom of shift lever
and insert the bolt. Torque both nut and bolt to 16 ft-lbs. The Civic/crx
and '90 to '93 Integras use the smaller Teflon bushings supplied by
B&M. 1994-and-later Integras use the larger bushings included with
the kit. Re-connect exhaust hangers. |

19. Lower vehicle and re-install shift knob. With clutch depressed, run
shifter through the gates to make sure the action is smooth and that
there is no binding or rough engagement. If the shifter does not engage
properly, raise car and check clearances. |
